What is a hearing assessment?
A hearing assessment is a thorough examination which helps determine if you have a hearing loss, and if so, whether minor or severe. It is a deeper, more detailed investigation which is very easy and pain-free.
Your audiologist will discuss your hearing issues or concerns as well as any relevant medical history and your lifestyle needs. A variety of tests will be performed including – otoscopy, tympanometry, pure tone audiometry and speech tests. These tests help the audiologist determine the best management option for you.
After which, your audiologist will talk through your results whether you need treatment, and if hearing aids would be beneficial and the different hearing aid styles and types that will suit the lifestyle, comfort and the hearing loss of the patient.
Additionally, if you meet the criteria for any medical treatment, with your consent, we will then discuss it with our partner ENT specialist, Mr Sam Khemani and refer you to him for further investigations and treatments if appropriate.
What is the difference between a hearing assessment and a free hearing test?
A free hearing test is to assess the level of hearing. It basically helps us obtain a current baseline of our hearing. And if further tests are required we will be able to do that for you but there will be a small charge associated with it for the extra tests.
Hearing loss often develops gradually, affecting daily life without notice. While it’s more common with age—impacting over 40% of people over 50 and 71% over 70—it can occur at any age. Early hearing assessments can detect subtle changes, enabling timely intervention. Taking action early helps maintain social connections and quality of life.
